Bilingual in both English and Polish, Yvonne Potter is a graduate of King’s College London (French & German BA). She launched her career at Wizja TV, Britain’s first digital broadcast media corporation based at the Maidstone Studios in England. Along with other core competencies, Yvonne’s interpreting skills were absolutely crucial during several European channel launches, as well as its rapid business growth.
Interested in exploring a career within the entertainment industry further, Yvonne emigrated to Los Angeles and completed the two-year Entertainment Publicity program at University of California, Los Angeles.
Landing a prestigious internship position within EVP Michael Dalling’s Worldwide Film Marketing & PR department at Rogers and Cowan, she collaborated with his team on strategic publicity campaigns and press junkets for a variety of independent and studio feature films, such as Warner Bros’ White Oleander and Academy Award-nominated director, Jerzy Antczak’s Chopin: Desire for Love.
Enthralled with the development process of script-to-screen, Yvonne freelanced as unit publicist on a variety of short and indie feature films in the Los Angeles area.
For over two years, Yvonne was employed by pioneer producer Raju Sharad Patel in Beverly Hills. At the age of 23, Raju produced the cult classic “Bachelor Party” (1984), which launched Tom Hanks’ film career, as well as “The Jungle Book” (1994) that grossed over $43 million domestically.
During this time, Raju showed true grit and tenacity. Battling colon cancer bravely, he never gave up developing films based on his love of children’s classics. Above all, he was a friend and an advisor to Yvonne. To this day, she holds his memory very dear.
In 2005, Yvonne was offered an in-house PR management position for Paul Anka’s Rock Swings - an album of big-band arrangements of contemporary standards, which provided Paul a comeback of sorts. Working closely with the team in all aspects of the publicity campaign, Yvonne handled all media materials as well as Paul’s archive. She also supported the in-house team with planning and execution of tours, local LA media events and promotions.
Proud of her ethnic (Polish Highlander) heritage and fascinated by the influence of Polish artists in early cinema, Yvonne developed an overwhelming interest in the great, and long overlooked, silent film star, Pola Negri. This led to more than two decades of research into her private/public identity.
Moving from LA to bohemian Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2008, Yvonne was inspired and encouraged by friends who work within the motion picture industry, to pursue the Pola obsession further. Yvonne co-wrote an original feature film script with London-based screenwriter, Lea Sellers, on Pola’s “Hollywood Years.”
In December 2021, the script entitled POLA, was ranked #10 of 1,054 on Coverfly's THE RED LIST in the category of Historical Feature. To date, it has also garnered nine industry finalist awards. Also, POLA was ranked in the Top 1% of Stage32 Community Scripts of 2021. In 2024, POLA was a Second Rounder in the Drama Feature Category at AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL.
An addition to writing, Yvonne’s goal is to broaden the public’s awareness about Pola’s body of work, and rightfully restore her position along with other notable stars of the silent film era. Aware that the average film-goer is unable to name stars that once graced the silver screen, she began an organic online social media campaign to reach out to Pola’s fans. The goal was to rally and nurture them regularly with a content-driven experience.
To gain traction, the strategy was, and still is, to entice them with news clippings, images, events and videos so that they re-post them across a variety of platforms. In this way, fans become loyal as well as engaged. Yvonne manages several social media sites dedicated to Pola, and the global fan base keeps growing exponentially.
In August 2021, Yvonne attended Austin Film Festival’s first-ever Ghost Ranch Writers’ Retreat in New Mexico. Chief Executive Officer of AFF, Barbara Morgan, led a small group, which included Yvonne. In a personal letter, Barbara praised her writing as “impassioned, engaged, intense, you managed to spark everyone and get them rolling! I enjoyed the pieces you shared with us and hope the experience was fruitful for you in some way. Thanks for sharing your writing; it’s such a raw thing to do-sharing something so personal. Please keep at it!”
In March 2022, Stowe Story Labs in Vermont selected VOID, a Holocaust Drama feature film project, out of 700 applications. Yvonne was one of 53 emerging writers and creatives who attended the June Lab.
Under the mentorship of international award-winning Polish film director, Jan P. Matuszyński, Yvonne wrote and produced a 60 second advert for Visit Małopolska at FILM SPRING OPEN in Kraków, Poland in October 2023. With the Polish Military granting permission, the cast and crew filmed the ad at Balice Airport.
Yvonne is a member of BAFTA North America. British-born Yvonne lives between London, NY and Kraków, and is mother to one incredible son. She has British and Polish citizenship, as well as being a naturalized citizen of the United States of America.
